The sales have started again, and horseOlogy is a part of them. We’ll be at OBS this year for the Winter Mixed and HRA, and we’re super excited to see all of you there. What can you expect if you come down for these sales? Here is an inside look at OBS’s Winter Mixed and HRA sale.
What is OBS?
OBS, or Ocala Breeders Sales Company, is a premier thoroughbred sales venue in central Florida. It’s near the horseOlogy laboratories, and we attend many events throughout the year. It attracts sellers and buyers from all over the world. It’s a way to showcase young thoroughbreds to get them to the right people at the right time.
Winter Mixed Sale
This two-day sale is scheduled for January 24th and 26th, and horseOlogy will be there, so we can’t wait to see you. The catalog is available on the OBS website, and online bidding will also be available. Buyers will need to register to be able to participate virtually. 262 yearlings are participating; we have our eye on talent this year.
Horses of Racing Age
If you’re not already in the know about horsie vocabulary, you may not know what HRA means when combined with Winter Mixed Sale and HRA. It stands for horses of racing age. Since racehorses are bought on an annual cycle, they can be yearlings who are not yet eligible for racing but can begin training, and 2-year-olds who are considered horses of racing age.

The Winter Mixed and HRA sale is on the smaller side for Thoroughbred sales, but it has a great variety of horses. It’s an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to round out their broodmare band for the year or dive into the Florida Bred horse market. We are excited to see you there.
