We are so proud of horseOlogy graduate Arcangelo and our very own Jena Antonucci for their second historic win in New York this year. Arcangelo came in first in the Travers Stakes. Known as the Midsummer Derby, 2023 marked the 154th running of this race, and Arcangelo and jockey Javier Castellano made an impressive showing on Saturday, August 26th.
Like with the Belmont Stakes, Jena made history once again as a female trainer. She became the first female trainer to win the Travers since 1938, when Mary Hirsch won with Thanksgiving. This was Javier’s seventh win in the Travers, also making more history.
Arcangelo has had an impressive year so far, starting with his maiden win and continuing with his win in the Peter Pan, then the Belmont, where he also made history with Jena. We can’t wait to see what is on the horizon for this ham of a horse who loves to run.
The horseOlogy breaking and training program takes a horse-first approach by determining each horse’s personality and what makes them tick. We are patient with each horse to ensure they are confident before introducing them to the track. Jena, of course, always credits Arcangelo with his success. Once again, we celebrate Arcangelo and the entire team, including owner Jon Ebbert, who was willing to take a chance on this gray colt and his trust in Jena and the team.
horseOlogy bought several yearlings at the sales this summer, and we will be at the Keeneland sale in Kentucky in September. Can any of these young horses develop into a champion like Arcangelo? Come along for the journey and invest with us. Investing in horseOlogy can allow you to be part of the development team for our thoroughbreds.
