Retirement. Rehoming. Second Career.

Every horse deserves a meaningful next chapter. Some Thoroughbreds finish their racing careers ready to transition into new disciplines—hunter, jumper, polo, barrel racing, trail, therapy, or companion. Others simply need a soft landing and a peaceful retirement.

Encore exists to honor both paths.

Rehoming With Purpose

Most horses entering Encore come from the racetrack as OTTBs. Our responsibility is to give each horse a safe transition, compassionate evaluation, and a new opportunity that fits their temperament, ability, and physical needs.

No horse is rushed. No horse is overlooked.
We aim for open doors and soft landings—always.

Retirement With Dignity

Some horses are not suited for a second career, and that’s okay. They deserve rest, respect, and lifelong safety.

At horseOlogy, we maintain our own “retired field,” home to broodmares, former racehorses, and sweet older souls who have earned a peaceful life. We call them our oldies, and they remain with us, loved and cared for, for the rest of their days.

Available for Rehoming

The vast majority of rehoming opportunities come from off the track thoroughbreds (OTTB’s) and we take it upon ourselves to make sure that there are open doors and soft landings for each and every one of them that come to us at the end of their racing career.

Keep checking back as we are always adding new rehoming opportunities. Thank you!

Resident Oldies

Not every horse is able to transition into a second career, and that’s where our resident herd comes in. At horseOlogy, our “oldies” live out their days in comfort and safety, enjoying a well-deserved retirement with the best care we can give.

“Dubs” entered Jena Antonucci’s barn in mid-2016.  Over his two years in her barn before retiring with earnings of $362,093, he also became Jena’s first Graded Stakes Winner when he won the Grade 3 Turf Monster Stakes. After retiring from the racetrack, he has decided that the best suited second career for him was “field boss” and has been excelling in his job since 2019. He rules over all of the ladies and has a strong opinion even as he ages.

“Biboo” is a 22 year old TB mare that earned almost $200k at the race track and went on to be a successful broodmare. This Multiple Graded Stakes Placed mare is still full of it as she often makes laps around the field when she is feeling good!

Came Through is a 19 year old TB mare that sold for $300k as a yearling. She spent a handful of years as a broodmare and can be known as the “grumpy” one of the field.

Port Salerno is a 10 year old TB mare that raced into her 8 year old year. After doing well for her owner/breeder for many years, she exchanged owners through claiming races along the east coast and then Puerto Rico. After a couple years of following her closely, her owner brought her home safely to retire. She has become the right hand lady to Dubs, the field master.
