Thoroughbred training and racing have a way of looking glamorous from the outside.

Beautiful horses. Big races. Saratoga in the summer. Winners circle photos and exciting finishes under the lights.

And while those moments absolutely exist, the people behind the scenes know there is a whole lot more to the story.

They Think:

“The horses just train for a little while each day.”

Reality:

Life at the farm revolves around the horses long before and long after training hours are over.

At horseOlogy, every part of the day matters — feed schedules, recovery, turnout, grooming, cooling out, evaluations, and making sure each horse continues developing both physically and mentally.

Training is only one small part of the process.

They Think:

“Horse racing is all fancy outfits and champagne.”

Reality:

Mornings start before sunrise with coffee in one hand and dirt on your boots before most people are awake.

They Think:

“When the horses are at the track it must feel like a vacation at the farm.”

Reality:

“Vacation” is probably not the word anyone at the barn would use. 😂

While some horses are training at the racetrack, life at horseOlogy in Ocala continues moving full speed ahead. Horses in our rehab and layup program continue receiving daily care and attention, while the next group of weanlings and yearlings are already being prepared for upcoming sales.

At the farm, there is always another horse to evaluate, another schedule to manage, and another stage of the journey already underway. From sales prep to training and rehabilitation, the work behind the scenes never really stops — and honestly, we wouldn’t want it any other way.

They Think:

“So the horses just sit in stalls all day?”

Reality:

Definitely not.

At horseOlogy in Ocala, horses spend their days on carefully managed schedules that go far beyond training hours. Depending on the horse and their individual program, that can include turnout, hand walking, rehabilitation routines, grooming, cooling out, grazing, recovery work, evaluations, and plenty of hands-on attention throughout the day.

Every horse has different physical and mental needs, which is why routines are tailored individually instead of taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

The goal is not simply training racehorses — it is developing happy, healthy Thoroughbreds both on and off the track.
